31/01/ 17 !! – Tax Return Deadline = ‘hackers field day’

With so many people filing their tax return online at the last minute, online fraud is unlikely to be the primary consideration when preparing their submissions!

If your accountant chooses to forward the personal financial information within these returns to you by email for verification prior to online submission, they are exposing you to identity fraud and contravening the Data Protection Act (DPA) into the bargain.

Although perceived as a good deed, this action could leave your Accountant with an ICO fine of up to £500,000 per infringement with reputational and consequential losses potentially running even higher.

Legal and Financial advisers alike continue to land in hot water as a consequence of home deposit fraud; a direct result of the interception of the sensitive email content involved in house purchasing.

Financial and Medical information are subjects that form part of the regulator’s definition of ‘sensitive’ data.
