Directors personally responsible for data breaches – DMA calls for custodial sentences!

With affect from spring 2017 the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) will be able to hold directors personally responsible for breaches under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) which can carry fines of up to £500,000.

Lobbying on the part of the DMA could see the introduction of custodial sentences to further compel businesses to consider their data obligations.
